Uckermark Hostel

The house was purchased for its own recreational purposes and is undergoing ongoing ecological restoration. For rustic guests it is already well habitable. Materials such as clay, stone and wood from the region are deliberately used, following the example of surrounding churches, monasteries and farmsteads.

On 2 levels it offers about 60 sqm of living space with a sunny garden of about 1000 sqm with a large terrace, barbecue area, table tennis table. It has a living room with fireplace, piano and large dining table, a kitchen with sink, refrigerator and a stove and a bathroom with shower and toilet on the first floor and a bedroom with two beds and a couch with mattress in the attic.

The house has only one fireplace stove in the living/dining room. Therefore, currently rented only in the warmer months. Additional overnight accommodations and a community room are planned in the annex in the near future.

The house is climate friendly because we have

• do without appliances such as TV, radio and freezer
• Use natural building materials, e.g. hemp insulation from the Uckermark region of Germany
• have installed a photovoltaic system on the roof, which generates electricity for 5 households
• Offer rental bikes
• inform about car-free excursion possibilities (the bus stop is right in front of the house)
• Save water (WC flushing is limited to 5l)
• design the garden close to nature
• Collect organic waste on the farm compost
